Kick Off Summer with SmarterProctoring
Beginning Summer 2026, SmarterProctoring Live replaces Honorlock as FSU’s online exam proctoring service. SmarterProctoring Live employs human proctors to monitor and record student exam sessions in real time, improving the security and academic integrity of exams administered online.
To allow students access to the service, add the SmarterProctoring option to your Canvas Navigation links from the list of available applications. Students can use SmarterProctoring only if you allow it in your course. Remind students they will pay a fee to use the service and must schedule testing appointments at least 72 hours in advance to avoid additional fees for late scheduling.
Training
SmarterProctoring will be offering 30-minute virtual training sessions for instructors on April 15, April 24, and May 6 at 12pm Eastern. You’ll learn how SmarterProctoring works, how to create and import exams, and how to configure settings such as extra-time accommodations. Visit FSU Faculty Training by SmarterProctoring to register for the session that best fits your schedule.
Keep in mind that SmarterProctoring is intended for use in distance learning courses and should be reserved for high-stakes exams. Instructors teaching face-to-face courses are encouraged to take advantage of no-cost proctoring through the FSU Testing Center, in-class proctoring solutions (e.g., Akindi forms, lockdown browsers, polling), and alternative assessment methods where possible, especially for exams worth 15% or more of the course grade.
Review the SmarterProctoring Guide for Instructors for information on getting started and copy the recommended SmarterProctoring syllabus language to your syllabus so students are aware of scheduling requirements and fees. For questions about using the tool, reach out to ODL technical support at 850-644-8004 or canvas@fsu.edu.
