Online Grad Programs Rank in Top 20

Four Florida State University online graduate programs are ranked in the top 20 nationally, according to U.S. News & World Report’s 2025 Best Online Programs.

The College of Business’s non-MBA graduate program jumped into the top 10 at No. 8 for public universities, up from No. 14 the previous year. The program ranked No. 12 among national institutions, an improvement from No. 18 the year before. For veterans, the program ranked No. 6 publicly and No. 8 nationally. The program offers degrees in management information systems and risk management and insurance. The online MBA program, with a degree in business administration, placed No. 16 among public institutions and No. 20 nationally. For veterans, the MBA program ranked No. 13 among public institutions and No. 15 nationally.

The College of Communication and Information’s online graduate program in information technology ranked No. 6 among public universities and No. 8 nationally. For veterans, the program stayed steady at No. 4 among public institutions and No. 5 nationally. The master’s degree is offered by the college’s School of Information.

The College of Criminology and Criminal Justice’s online graduate program ranked No. 6 among public universities and nationally at No. 10. The program ranked No. 5 publicly and No. 7 nationally among veterans. The college offers a master’s degree in criminology.

The College of Engineering continues to improve, moving up seven spots to No. 31 among public universities and 10 spots to No. 39 nationally. For veterans, the college ranked No. 21 among public institutions and No. 26 nationally. The college offers online master’s degrees in civil engineering and systems engineering.

The College of Education, Health, and Human Sciences’ online graduate program ranked No. 21 publicly and No. 23 nationally for veterans. The program checked in at No. 41 among public universities and No. 46 nationally. The college offers the following degrees:

Specialty Rankings
For specialty rankings of master’s degrees, U.S. News & World Report uses a methodology based on responses to a peer assessment survey. Respondents were asked to list up to 15 institutions they believed had strengths in particular areas.

By this metric, several of the College of Education, Health, and Human Sciences’ graduate specialty programs ranked in the top 15. The instructional systems and learning technologies program placed No. 3, up one spot from the previous year, and special education ranked No. 5. Curriculum and Instruction saw the biggest leap, moving from No. 12 into the top 10 at No. 7. Educational leadership and policy (with a major in educational leadership and administration) ranked No. 15. For the College of Business, the MBA in marketing ranked No. 8 among public institutions and No. 12 nationally.
